Heros is a genus of cichlids native to the Amazon, Orinoco and Essequibo River basins in South America. They were previously included in the genus Cichlasoma before its restriction to the distinct group of "Port Cichlids."
Heros appendiculatus is a species of tropical freshwater cichlid native to the Amazon Basin in South America. It is commonly found in the aquarium trade, often in its gold colored variation rather than the wild-type olive green one
It is omnivore and will accept most frozen and prepared foods
Its vibrant greenish coloration makes it a great fish to have in your South American Cichlids Collection or Community Tank. Not easy to find.
